My Goals for 2018

My Goals for 2018
new years goals and resolutions for 2018
I love self-improvement, and like most people, I find the new year a great time to set new years resolution, or goals, for my life. I don't like calling them new years resoultions because I feel like it is done...that word feels so perminate to me, and that there is no working at the resolution to acheive it, it has to be done on day one, and needless to say I fail the first day, no matter what it is I am trying to change and feel like I've started the new year off on a bad note; where as, calling them goals, they are just that....goals, something to work at over time and I don't stress about 'completing' them the first day. The past year or so things seem to have gotten so out of hand and I've gotten so very unorganized which leaves me feeling scatter-brained with nothing done or complete most days. So I sat down right before Christmas and wrote down 12 areas in my life that are not organized and that really just drain me, and what I am going to have to do to improve upon them.
1.Get closer to God
I can do this by ...
reading and studying my Bible more on my own and with my husband
spending more time in prayer, alone and with my husband
writing and journaling what I read and learn from our Bible studies
2. Become more like a Godly wife
I can become more like the Proverbs 31 and Titus 2 wife by ...
daily submitting to my husband
reverencing my husband
growing closer to God {see #1}
being my husbands help-meet
3. Be more diligent in teaching Abigail about Jesus and living a holy life
I can do this by ...
seeking and using teaching opportunities in everyday life
reading God’s Word and doing Bible studies with her more
being an example in the way I live and react to situations
4. Stop smoking
This is a big one for me, I have tried and failed so many times; it is a very strong-hold on my life, but my God is stronger and more powerful; I can do all things through Christ, and can accomplish this goal by ...
praying through temptations and triggers
using patches
riding my bike through urges and triggers
5. Lose weight
Another adult life-long battle; I love food, but I also use it as an award and for comfort; I've lost weight before, I know I can do it again, to do this, I need to ...
go to my heavenly Father for comfort and glory in Him for 'rewards'
ride my bike
drink a lot of water
count calories
make better meal choices
walk my dog
use my aerobics DVD
6. Be a better friend; neighbor; church member
The Bible says to be a friend we must show ourselves friendly; it's not that I am not friendly or nice to people, I am quiet and keep to myself and I have very low self-esteem; but it is past time to come out of my shell and show the love of Christ to others by being a friend, He is the best friend anyone could ever have, and I can do this by ...
thinking of others first
putting others first
doing for others
praying for others
teach Abigail to do same
7. Grow my business and this blog
Un-Organization has led to late blog posts, missing inventory at my store and me feeling like a mess; my husband and I sat down and wrote out everything I need to do to accomplish this goal in fine detail, now, I have to apply it by ...
creating a work schedule and follow it
complete the blogging I bought classes
apply what I learn to this blog and my store
pray and apply what the Lord says
8. Keep up the house and yard better
Before I started blogging I kept our house in tip-top shape, but as I started blogging and sitting at the computer for several hours a day my house work suffered...that has come to an end; I don't expect my home to look like a model home, but I won't live in a dirty or broken home; this goal will be accomplished by ....
making and keeping a daily and weekly cleaning and maintenance schedule
9. Get and stay organized
I bought a couple of planners, I have written down what needs to be done for this blog and our store daily and weekly, and what needs to be done in and for the house daily and weekly; following these schedules will help me get and stay organized
use my planners daily
create and stick to a schedule
10. Eliminate debt
This can be done by ...
paying off credit balances
stop needless spending
down-sizing some of our monthly expenses
11. Grow a veggie garden and expand my flower gardens
Gardening is a lot of work, epically in the hot Texas sun and in this ole hard, black dirt, but the rewards are so worth it, so I can accomplish this goal by ...
getting seeds started
making beds for seedlings and new flowering plants
maintaining the yards and gardens
12. Complete some DIY house maintenance and repairs
It seems to never end in this 109 year old house, on a good note, we can't really ever say we have nothing to do! For starters, we can accomplish this goal by ...
painting, painting, and painting

My *goal* is for you to hold me accountable for all 12 of these goals I've made, and in return, I plan to report back to you on these goals and how they are coming along throughout the year; hopefully, I will be reporting back all good news.

  1. Jenn, worthy goals. I just might be able to help you with #5. I don't usually include a link to my blog in my comments, don't like to look/be "spammy, but this post could be very helpful and encouraging to you. Diets don't work, but making certain changes does. This post tells what works for me: http://www.delightfulrepast.com/2016/09/sugar-toxin-or-treat.html

  2. A new year gives us a clean slate and new opportunities to grow and improve! I enjoyed reading through your goals - organization is a weakness of mine and one I'll have to work at all my days. But each new day God's gives us a chance to do better!
