God Keeps His Promises

God Keeps His Promises
God Keeps His Promises
My husband and I have recently been studying about the lives of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob in the first 31 chapters of Genesis. There is a lot going on in those first 31 chapters, but one thing that that has jumped out at me is how God has kept the promises He made, down through the ages. Starting with Noah; {Genesis 9:9-16} we all know the story of God’s judgment on sinful man; but Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord, and God made His covenant with him and all the families and creatures of the earth, that He would never cut off all flesh by waters of a flood; nor destroy the earth by flood {again}.
God didn’t say there would never be floods; He said He would never destroy the whole earth and everyone and everything in it by flood again, He even set His bow in the sky as a reminder to us when storms and rain do come. {Genesis 9:15-17}
Abram, or Abraham as he is later named, is next. {Genesis 12:2-3; 7; 13:16; 15:4; 17:4, 16, 19, 21: 18:10; 22:18}. In a nut-shell, God promised Abraham a son in his old age, Isaac, to be the father of many nations, and that his seed would be as the dust in number; of course, we now know that Jesus’ genealogy goes all the way back to Abraham {Matthew 1:1-16}, and if we are Christ’s, then we are Abraham’s seed and heirs according to the promise {Galatians 3:29}.
Third on this list would be God’s promise to Isaac {Genesis 26:24} that He was with Isaac, that He would bless him and multiply his seed; we know that Isaac was the son of promise given to Abraham and Sarah {Genesis 17:21}, and through our Bible studies we know that the 12 tribes of Israel came from Jacob {Israel} who is a son of Isaac. Last, but not least in this study is Jacob, later named Israel. This study only goes through Genesis chapter 31; after chapter 31 God revisits Jacob and gives him a new name and reestablishes His covenant with him; for the sake of this study, we will refer to the promise to give Jacob the land where he laid, and that his seed would be of the dust of the earth, and that they would spread abroad to the west, east, north and south and in him and in his seed shall all families of the earth be blessed {Genesis 28:13-15}; as stated above, from reading our Bibles we know that the 12 tribes of Israel came out of Jacob, his sons, and it is through his son Judas that we find the lineage of Christ.
God Keeps His Promises

We know, in part from reading our Bible, and in part by faith, that God has kept each of the promises He made to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, and He keeps the promises He makes to us, too.
Some of God’s promises are conditional, and He will only keep them if we meet the condition, like, honoring our father and our mother, God will make our days long {Exodus 20:12}, the promise of everlasting life if we repent of our sins and receive Christ as our Savior {John 3:16, John 3:36, John 6:47; Luke 13:3} and the promise of the Comforter after we receive Christ as our Savior {Acts 2:38; Ephesians 1:13}. But others are not, like for food and clothing. {Matthew 6:25-33}.
God’s Word promises us that He will provide clothing for us to wear; it does not promise He will provide whatever label is hot at-the-moment or clothing from top designers, He said He would clothe us {Matthew 6:30-32}.
A few days ago I decided to go through my closet and clean it out, honestly, I had a lot of clothes in there I can no longer fit into. When I was done, I ended up removing 63 articles of clothing from my side of the closet alone! I never would have guessed I had that many clothes period, none-the-less to give away and still have a closet full to wear – God provided all those clothes for me; some as gifts from other people; some through extra blessings in our income; and some, well, frankly I have no clue how they ended up in my closet or where they came from! What I do know is my heavenly Father promised to keep me clothed, and He has kept that promise.
God never promised us an easy life, but He did promise to never leave us nor forsake us {Hebrews 13:5}, and many, many more promises throughout His Word, and that IS one thing you can count on!

But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.
What promises from God are you standing on today?

  1. Praise God that He keeps His promises, to Israel, to those that call on Him by faith and to those that have the Gospel preached to them.
    I understand about the clothing. We were to go to a big family get together...and I didn't have really anything that was nice to wear...I asked the Lord about it. Then the next time we went to the local free store (at the dump) I found a garbage bag full of brand new or like new clothes...that fit me. What an amazing provider He is!
