16 Verses to Help You Keep Christ in Christmas

16 Verses to Help You Keep Christ in Christmas
Christmas is my favorite time of year! My son and I have always shared a special love for Christmas, and often refer to it as ‘our time’. Our family tradition is to pull out all the decorations and decorate the inside of the house Thanksgiving night, and the outside the following day.
This year is super special to me; my son has been trying to enlist in the USMC for over a year, and it looks as though the doors that have been slammed shut in his face are beginning to open for him, this could be his last Christmas at home for a while; earlier this year my mom gave me hers and my dads Christmas decorations, 90% of them are the ones I grew up with! It’s been so much fun to decorate our home with the things my mom decorated with when I was growing up, so many wonderful memories with each ornament and decoration we unwrapped! I’ve been having a lot of fun with our 6-year old, she helped decorate the house, she helped me wrap gifts one night, we had glitter all over us and the living room, we were sparkly! We’ve already begun crafting, we’ve had a lot of deep discussions about what to make for her teachers and the 91-year old woman that lives down the street; we’ve compiled our baking list, we’re going to the ballet right before Christmas, and we have several other fun things filling our schedule.
While all of this is a lot of fun, and creates memories that last a life time for everyone, there is one thing my husband and I always make sure we have time for, and keep mindful of, during Christmas time, the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Like most Christian families we celebrate Advent, we have the calendar and we even have the Shepherd on the Search this year. These too are fun, and a great way to teach our little one that Christmas is the celebration of Christ’s birth, but I need more.
I don’t want to get so caught up in parades and festivities that I lose focus. So, I grabbed my Bible this morning and did some studying. Below are the verses I have written upon the posts of my house and gate; I already knew these Scriptures, as I am sure most of you do, but I needed to read them again, and I hope these Scriptures help you remember what we are really celebrating as they have me. God bless you, and Merry Christmas to you and your family.
Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel. – Isaiah 7:14

For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. – Isaiah 9:6

Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us. – Matthew 1:23

And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS. He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end. - Luke 1:31-33

And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn. And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men. - Luke 2:6-14

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. - John 3:16-17

Father, I thank You for Your love and Your mercy, for sending Your only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, into this broken world so that everyone has a chance to be saved. I thank You Lord for Your salvation, I thank You for this time of year that we celebrate the birth of Your Son Jesus, please Lord keep us mindful of what Christmas really is, help us to not be so busy we forget; help us see You in everything around us. I love You Lord, please bless whomever is reading this, that their home would be filled with Your love, joy and peace; in Jesus name, amen.
