Mamma G's Homemade Salsa

Mamma G's Homemade Salsa

I’ve been making salsa for several years; we just couldn’t find a mass produced salsa with the heat and texture we liked.
First my husband made salsa, his is good, but his is what I call masculine, or heavy, where my recipe is lighter, and closer to restaurant style.
I make a gallon at a time, which usually lasts less than a week, our kids are always asking me for the recipe, but I won’t give it to them, shhhh, please don’t tell them!
To make my salsa, you will need the following -
{per ½ gallon}
1 onion
4-6 jalapenos
1 lg. can crushed tomatoes
½ bunch of cilantro
lemon juice
salt
pepper
garlic powder
cayenne
This salsa is super simple to make and customize.

It takes longer to gather the ingredients than it does to prepare it.
After gathering everything I need, I open a can of the crushed tomatoes and pour it into my blender; juice and all.
I add my spices.
Next I pull the leaves off about half the bunch of cilantro and toss them into the blender.
I rough chop one onion and my jalapenos and put them on top of the cilantro.

Last, I top it off with lemon juice; usually I pour enough lemon juice to cover the onion and peppers.
I ‘blend’ it all together until I get to my desired texture.

I make a gallon at time and it’s never been around long enough to spoil; I’ve never canned it, but I am sure it would keep quite nice.

If you don't already have one, you can pick up a blender super cheap, or go all out; their prices range from under $20. to well over $200.; if your in the market for one, take a look at this one that is nice but won't break the bank.
