Sitting at the table with my 6-year-old while she was playing with her playdough, she told me she was making a cake for Jesus and asked me if I thought He would like it.
I smiled at her and said, what matters to Him is your heart. Are you doing this because you love Him? She smiled real big, her eyes lit up, nodded her head and gave a hearty “yes!” I said, then He loves it!
That got me to thinking; when you get right down to it, no matter what you are doing, that is what it all boils down to, your heart condition. It doesn’t matter how much we do in the name of the Lord, how much we give in the name of the Lord or where we go in the name of the Lord, if our heart is not doing it for the Lord, it is as filthy rags; we are no different than the hypocrites, sadducees and pharisees. See Matthew chapter 6.
Proverbs 16 says for us to commit our works to the Lord, how can we possibly do that is our heart isn’t right?
Jesus said, blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God, He also said unless you become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.
And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord
God Himself told Jeremiah that He searches the heart; it is the condition of our heart that matters the most to the Lord. When life gets hard and things get rough, how do we protect our heart from growing cold?
Praying to God and confessing how we feel
Reading our Bibles daily
Thanking God for what He’s given us instead of grumbling about what we don’t have
Regular church attendance and fellowship with other believers
I think Paul summed it up pretty well in I Corinthians chapter 13 ….
“Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing. And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.”
If our heart isn’t right we are just doing it for the praises of men
God would rather our heart be right before Him; it’s a heart matter.
