How to Strive to Have a Godly Marriage - The Power of Submission

The Power of Submission

There's that word, submission, the world, and a lot of Christian women, love to hate. Godly submission isn't how the world sees submission. The worldly view is one of the husband bossing the wife and children around, the wife never having a say or a voice of her own, and the husband being abusive. This is NOT Godly submission.
Ephesians 5:22 - Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.
I Peter 3:1 - Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives;
When a wife submits to her husband, her behavior glorifies God. If he isn't already, your husband can get saved by your lifestyle, behavior and faithful service.
Godly submission to your husband is really a beautiful thing, and there are blessings for the wife when she submits to her husband.
Ephesians 5:25 - Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; The husband is head of the wife as Christ is head of the husband and the church.
The power is to change your whole attitude in life, seeking His will gives you wisdom. Obedience is the right spirit because you love the Lord and it will give you joy and freedom. If you are unsure of a behavior or decision, ask yourself; "Will this action please the Lord" or "Will this decision please the Lord" "Is Christ pleased with what I am doing?"
If you don't submit to your husband, you are at the mercy of his wrong decisions.
Genesis 23 - Sarah submitted to Abraham, and because she submitted to him God intervened and protected her when they were in Egypt and Abraham told everyone she was his sister. When the wife is submitting to her husband, God deals with the HUSBAND when he messes up and the wife, being in her proper position, does not suffer the consequences like the husband does. The more you trust God, the more you can trust Him.
James 4:7 - Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
Ephesians 5:22 - Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.
When you submit you grow spiritually and your husband will grow into who God wants him to be.
Ephesians 5:33 - Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband.
Even though it isn't always easy, and some men just flat don't deserve this, in being obedient to the Lord, you should...
Respect your husband - the world says respect is earned, but God is telling us to respect our husbands because they are our husbands, and because he has been put in the position of head of the house.
Honor your husband - honor? Isn't that saved for our parents? We can, and should honor our husbands too, we can honor him by showing him respect, and praising him. On our 21st wedding anniversary, I decided to show total submission and honor to my husband by washing his feet. It was definitely a humbling experience!
Encourage your husband - Our husbands really need a lot of encouragement from us, they are under a lot of stress and pressures from this world; when things are rough, even when they are going good, encourage him, tell him how wonderful he is!
Praise your husband - Don't allow someone else to be a bigger cheerleader to your husband then you are. Tell him how good he did this or that, or how wonderful he is at this or that
Believe in your husband - we are all human and we all make mistakes, and we all need someone to believe in us; if you aren't encouraging, praising and believing in your husband, what kind of message is this sending to your children? Cheer him on, behind his back and in front of him!
When you submit, you have power. Reverence and praise him daily
When you submit, God commands your husband to love you with a deep, compassionate love.
Dress nice for him, not just special occasions - I fail at this one big time! As a stay at home mom I like to dress comfortably and as long as I am not out sweating, I normally wear the same clothes two days in a row - I save makeup for special times, and my nice clothes for church, but I {we} should be loving ourselves and our husbands, more than that. How surprised my husband would be to come in one day and find me with my hair done, makeup on and wearing a dress!
Snuggle with him
Praise him
Don't nag
Proverbs 21:9 - It is better to dwell in a corner of the housetop, than with a brawling woman in a wide house.
Proverbs 27:15 - A continual dropping in a very rainy day and a contentious woman are alike.
Ask God to show you how to quit nagging your husband and ask Him to give you a praise for him instead. The power of submission will influence your husband in a good way. God will grow him into who HE wants your husband to be.
Wives, we are their help-meets
I Kings 21:25 - But there was none like unto Ahab, which did sell himself to work wickedness in the sight of the LORD, whom Jezebel his wife stirred up. - a rebellious wife
Husbands need the support of his wife and kids, God put the husband first, as the head of the family and marriage; submission will protect your husband and children need to be obedient to their dad. If the wife and kids don't have the husbands 'back' the enemy can sneak in and attack him.
Even when the husband isn't doing what he is supposed to be doing, the wife needs to continue submitting, being consistent and continually in prayer.
The power of submission protects him from wrong decisions; opens up the way for God to make him who He designed him to be, influences him and protects him.
Your not winning unless your working together!

Steps to Victory Over Lust Matthew 5:27-29 - Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery: But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart. And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.
Lust Does 4 Things
Brings repercussions like
Tolerance - Mark 6; I Timothy 2:9 - In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;
Acceptance - Judges 14:3 - Then his father and his mother said unto him, Is there never a woman among the daughters of thy brethren, or among all my people, that thou goest to take a wife of the uncircumcised Philistines? And Samson said unto his father, Get her for me; for she pleaseth me well.
Involvement - James 1:15 - Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.
Destroys scared relationships
Porn is a fantasy world that makes a woman feel like she failed and gives her unreachable goals to measure up to
Destroys Sane Relationships
Samson was unwise in choosing his wives all of his sane reasoning was gone
Judges 15 and 16
It also damages the body, soul and spirit
II Peter 2:8 - (For that righteous man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, vexed his righteous soul from day to day with their unlawful deeds;)
II Peter 2:14 - Having eyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin; beguiling unstable souls: an heart they have exercised with covetous practices; cursed children:
The spirit becomes weak and damaged.
Destroys Spiritual Reality
Galatians 5:16 - This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.
I Corinthians 7:5 - Defraud ye not one the other, except it be with consent for a time, that ye may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again, that Satan tempt you not for your incontinency.
Proverbs 6:26 - For by means of a whorish woman a man is brought to a piece of bread: and the adulteress will hunt for the precious life.

The thought of submission can be scary, but when we learn about Godly submission it really is a wonderful thing! 2. Lots of stuff here, Jenn! I think we need to start understanding the verse from the back. When we submit ourselves to the Lord, we also love our husbands the right way. So, the most important thing I do to our marriage daily is to sumbit to the Lord. Then everything else follows. Thanks so much. Blessings to you, Jenn!

  5. Fantastic post with lots of great stuff. I think our definition of 'submission' is what scares us the most but a realistic view of the definition would be desirous.

    1. Thank you Betty, I agree, the worlds definition of submission is total opposite of God's, which is what scares so many women away. Thank you for visiting Is It Monday, Yet? God bless you.

My grandmother was my Godly influence; she introduced me to Gospel music, and though I didn't realize it at the time, as I look back, I see that she was a Godly woman and set a beautiful example for her daughters and granddaughters! Thank you for visiting Is It Monday, Yet? I am on my way over to your blog, thank you for the link! God bless you!
