God's Call to Repentance

Why My Family Doesn’t Celebrate Halloween
After I got saved and began understanding the darkness of this world I began disliking Halloween, and didn’t want my children having anything to do with it. Does that mean I never let them go trick-or-treating? No, unfortunately, there was a time in my life when I got out of church and away from God, and let the pressures of the world get to me and allowed my children to go trick-or-treating three different times. I have regretted it every since. I had taught my children when they were little that Halloween was bad and not of God and was not something we partook in, but then allowed them to participate in trick or treating and ‘harvest’ parties at church, thus sending them mixed messages not only about Halloween but more importantly about my convictions and what God’s Word has to say about these things.

The Heart's Desires

Standing Firm in the Face of Opposition
When you are faced with opposition, how do you respond? Do you try to figure things out on your own, working out problems with your own abilities, or, do you put your faith to work and wait on God? King Jehoshaphat faced great opposition in II Chronicles chapter 20, when the children of Moab, the children of Ammon and the Ammonites came to battle against him. He could have very easily called forth his best warriors and chariots and sent them out to meet the opposing forces, but he didn’t. The first thing he did when hearing the news of the impeding attack, was to seek the Lord AND proclaim a fast throughout all of Judah. It goes on to tell us that the entire nation gathered together and sought help from the Lord, TOGETHER; and when all the cities of Judah stood together in the house of the Lord, their King prayed, with them, and for them! Oh my goodness! How I love the story of King Jehoshaphat, if only we had national leaders like him!
Do you remember when Jesus called Peter forth to walk on water that night in the stormy sea? Matthew 14:22-33, emphasis on verses 28-30; Peter was facing a terrible storm while at sea, and when the disciples saw Jesus walking on the water they were afraid. Jesus told them not to be afraid, and Peter asked Him if he would bid, or call him, to come out on the sea with Him, so, Jesus did; and as long as Peter kept his eyes on Christ, and not on the storm around him, he walked on water! But, like most of us do, Peter took his eyes off Christ and looked at the storm, and as soon as he did, Peter began to sink; however, in His love, mercy and grace, as soon as Peter called out to the Lord, Jesus stretched forth His hand and caught him, saving him.

The Privilege of Knowing God
Of all the people you’ve met in your life, who ranks at the top? The greatest privilege we have is the privilege of knowing God. It is an awesome opportunity available to everyone, everywhere to know THE living God. Knowing God is the greatest of all knowledge and until you know Him on a personal level, all the knowledge of the universe will not give you the peace knowing God will and certainly will not save your soul. Philippians 3:7-11 - But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ. Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ, And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith: That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death; If by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead.

Grandpa Pike
101 years ago today, October 11, 1915, my grandfather, Clarence Preston Pike came into the world to Steve and Mary Pike of Heath, Texas. My grandpa has been gone a long time, he went home to the Lord June 6, 2004, but he lived a long, full life. Married to one wife, Thelma Lilian, the two of them had four children, two sons and two daughters.

A Life of Becoming

Nursing Home Ministry
For several years God has given my husband a soft heart for our elderly. God blessed my husband with a nursing home ministry this past year, and it is producing fruit.
My husband visits two home, once a week each. Both homes have gone from a hand-full of attendants, to 60 at one visit, averaging 25-30 each week. My husband gets to witness to these lovely people, he sings and plays his guitar for them, taking requests; he brings a short message, prays for them, and with them. God is using him in such a powerful way at these homes.
One of the residents who regularly attends started out coming in there hollering at my husband, telling him to shut up, go away, and never come back, that no one wanted to hear those songs or hear what the Bible says; the Holy Spirit must be working in her, she still attends, but she no longer yells out at my husband; I pray I can update this post one day with the news that she received Christ as her Savior.
My husband has a lot of health issues, even having two strokes, and he is unable to work like he used to; God has a new job for him now, my husband is learning how to delight himself in the Lord, and in this 'new job', the Lord is also giving him the desires of his heart {Psalm 37:4}; to God be the glory in all that he does; praise the Lord, thank You Jesus.
