Four "Whys" of the Bible

Four "Whys" of the Bible
Four
Has anyone ever asked why you read the Bible? Or maybe you’ve wondered why some people read the Bible faithfully? The Bible is the inspired Word of God; God uses His Word to communicate with us, to educate us, to grow us spiritually, to comfort us; in His Word we find salvation through Jesus Christ and learn about who God really is what He is really like! These are some of my reasons for reading, believing, loving and obeying the Bible!

Why We Should Read the Bible
The Bible is the greatest book ever written.
1. It is unique in how it was written.
“All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.” II Timothy 3:16-17 It was written by 40 different authors. Some of them include ..
Moses   Joshua
Isaiah   Jeremiah
Amos   Nehemiah
Esther   Job
David   Ezekiel
Daniel   Jonah
Matthew  Mark
Luke   John
Paul   Peter
“For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.” II Peter 1:21
These people did not collaborate, but yet, all of their works fit together perfectly.
The Bible was written in three continents – Asia, Africa, and Europe, in three different languages, Arab, Greek and Hebrew.

2. The Bible is unique in its distribution. For hundreds of years kings have attempted to ban the Bible and even to get rid of it, but Jesus said, Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away. Matthew 24:35
As of the year 2013, over 6 BILLION copies of the Bible have been printed into over 450 languages!

3. The Bible is unique in its teaching. You can read prophesy, about the law, poetry, the Gospels, church history, letters from Paul, letters to believers; you can read stories about people God used like Abraham, Noah, Moses, David, Peter – and that none of these men were perfect, but God still used them!

4. The Bible is unique in its influence. Down through history people have quoted the Bible, even those who didn’t/don’t believe or trust God.
Why do I read the Bible?
to draw closer to God
to know God better
to learn how to live a life pleasing to God
to learn how to be a Godly wife and mother

Why We Should Believe the Bible
“Jesus answered them, and said, My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me. If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself.” John 7:16-17
1. There is evidence all throughout the Bible about astronomy, science, oceanography and more, written long before people had for-knowledge of these topics.

2. Fulfilled prophecies. God told them what to write before it happened; the fall of Babylon, the fall of Egypt. The fall of Nineveh, the fall of Jerusalem. These and much, much more were all spoken of and written about long before they happened……not convinced? Read about the birth and death of our Savior in Isaiah; the only way Isaiah could have known was because God told him.

3. A lot of archeology facts have been unearthed throughout history; a lot by folks setting out to disprove the Bible, only to prove what it says!

4. Personal experience. Every problem and issue ever known to man is found in the Bible; no matter what kind of problem or issue you are having, you can find the answer to it in the Bible.
The Bible has transformed people to be missionaries, Pastors, leaders, teachers, to help others, including their enemies. The Bible has transformed people to be better spouses, workers, neighbors, and friends.
The Holy Spirit will confirm God’s truth. Prove Him …
“Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it. Malachi 3:10
Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool. If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land:” Isaiah 1:18-19

Why We Should Love the Bible
“O how love I thy law! it is my meditation all the day. Thou through thy commandments hast made me wiser than mine enemies: for they are ever with me. I have more understanding than all my teachers: for thy testimonies are my meditation. I understand more than the ancients, because I keep thy precepts. I have refrained my feet from every evil way, that I might keep thy word. I have not departed from thy judgments: for thou hast taught me. How sweet are thy words unto my taste! yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth! Through thy precepts I get understanding: therefore I hate every false way. Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path”. Psalm 119:97-105

Why We Should Obey the Bible
“And his disciples asked him, saying, What might this parable be? And he said, Unto you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God: but to others in parables; that seeing they might not see, and hearing they might not understand. Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God. Those by the way side are they that hear; then cometh the devil, and taketh away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved. They on the rock are they, which, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, which for a while believe, and in time of temptation fall away. And that which fell among thorns are they, which, when they have heard, go forth, and are choked with cares and riches and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to perfection. But that on the good ground are they, which in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience.” Luke 8:9-15
I’ve read it, believed it, and love it!!
1.Obeying the Bible makes us the right type of soil; a usable person and fruit bearing. To read the Bible and not obey it is not being a good servant.

2.There are blessing for obeying God’s Word which enable us to withstand the storms of life.
“Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity. Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.” Matthew 7:22-27

3.Obedience shows I truly love Jesus and know Him – John 14:15; I John 2:3-6

4.Because I love God – Ephesians 2:8-9; John 1:1
There are four of my many ‘whys’ of the Bible, why we should obey it, love it, believe it and read it. What are your reasons for reading, believing, loving and obeying the Bible?
