How do you deal with an angry person?
Ephesians 4:25-27 - Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another. Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath: Neither give place to the devil.
don’t sin
get it worked out before the end of the da {don’t go to bed angry}
don’t let the devil get a foot hold, don’t give place to the devil
It is a very dangerous situation when two people are angry together. Jesus said if your brother smites your cheek, turn and give him the other one. Matthew 5:39 - But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.
Usually when anger surfaces there is a deeper problem in the heart. Sometimes, anger is an emotional cry for help.
80-90% of anger is displaced. If you get angry at school or work, leave it there, don’t bring it home with you. It’s not fair to your children and/or spouse or anyone else when you come home angry and take it out on them – this is displaced anger.
The Bible says anger is a sin and we must sustain from it.
Psalm 37:8 - Cease from anger, and forsake wrath: fret not thyself in any wise to do evil.
Proverbs 27:4 - Wrath is cruel, and anger is outrageous; but who is able to stand before envy?
Picture anger as a flood or downpour, it’s dangerous, it over-flows and destroys everything in its path.
Galatians 5:19-20 - Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,
The Bible places wrath right up there with idolatry and witchcraft; they are all tied together. You have to confess it, and put off your pride. Anger destroys everything, it messes with your heart and your health; take your thoughts captive and put your mind in Christ.
Anger is an emotion, when you get angry your putting your emotions above your mind.
When your dealing with an angry person, you need to make sure you bring down your tone, your body language and your words.
Proverbs 15:1 - A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.
Proverbs 19:11 - The discretion of a man deferreth his anger; and it is his glory to pass over a transgression.
When someone hurts your or does you wrong, it is so tempting to get them back, the Bible says vengeance belongs to the Lord. Instead of getting even, give them a gift; kill’em with kindness. Defuse anger with a soft word.
Proverbs 21:14 - A gift in secret pacifieth anger: and a reward in the bosom strong wrath.
Proverbs 19:19 - A man of great wrath shall suffer punishment: for if thou deliver him, yet thou must do it again.
How to Conquer Anger -
1. Seek and pray for patience, morning, noon and night. I Timothy 6:11 - But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness.
2. II Corinthians 10:3-5 - For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;
We must use the weapons of spiritual warfare. Angry words leave wounded spirits and scar people, tearing them down.
Psalm 51:5 - Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me.
3. Get rid of your carnel nature by getting Christ. Hate, malice, slander, pride, jealously, deception, these things produce fruits of unrighteousness. Displaying the fruits of the Spirit will defuse anger.
Love conquers hate
Joy conquers sadness
Peace conquers wrath
Longsuffering conquers anger and impatience
Gentleness conquers anger, roughness
Faith conquers unbelief
Meekness conquers pride
Temperance conquers anger and pride
Matthew 25:40- And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.
When you get angry you are ripping the people around you to shreds emotionally and spiritually; you are tearing down instead of building up, and you are ruining your relationships.
If you want to conquer anger, give it over to Jesus
Philippians 4:13 - I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.
