So, what is an ambassador? An ambassador represents their homeland in a strange or foreign land. When we get saved, this is no longer our home, heaven is; thus making us ambassador’s for Christ; what does this mean we are to do? Jesus told us in Matthew 28:19-20; “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.” He commanded us to tell everyone about Him and God’s perfect plan of salvation.
John 18:36 - Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: When we get saved we are adopted into God’s family {Romans 8:15-16 - For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:}, we’re brought back into fellowship with God and no longer separated from Him.
Matthew 6:24 - No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
As followers of Christ, Christ should be our top priority. Romans 12:1-2 - I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
We should be standing firm for God and not be conformed to this world. We should be putting away our old customs and ways, our sin customs and ways, behind us and let the Spirit of God live through us; living Godly, righteous lives, glorifying God, not this world and its temporary pleasures. Remember, we are in the world, but we are no longer of this world. When people look at us they should see that there is something different about us; by observing our lives and hearing our speech, they should see Christ in us and glorify our heavenly Father,
So, how can we be an ambassador for Christ?
1. By being one of His, get saved. {Someone who doesn’t know Christ as their Savior isn’t qualified to be His ambassador} John 3:16 - For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
Romans 10:9-10 - That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
Ephesians 2:8-9 - For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.
Matthew 7:21-23 - Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
Not everyone who claims to represent Christ does, there are a lot of false teachers and wolves in sheep’s clothing out there; always test what someone is preaching with the Bible to see if lines up with God’s Word. You will know them by their fruits. This is one of the reasons we need to study and learn God’s Word so we will know false teaching when we hear it.
I John 4:1-3 - Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.
2. Carry out the message of salvation to a lost and dyeing world; and commit to studying God’s Word every day.
II Timothy 2:15 - Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
3. Communicate with God every day
God communicates with us through His Word, the Holy Spirit and prayer. He allows us to come boldly to His throne of grace and lay our requests and petitions before Him, anytime, day or night. We can approach God’s throne with confidence, praying always and praying like we mean it
{how often do we pray for rain with an umbrella in our hands?}
Philippians 4:6-7 - Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
Hebrews 4:16 - Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.
4. Stand guard against the evil of this world.
There is a lot of evil around us, physical and spiritual.
Ephesians 6:10-13 - Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
James 4:14 - Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.
We don’t know what tomorrow brings, or if we’ll even have a tomorrow; to him who knows to do good and does evil, it is sin.
5. It’s our job
Our job is to tell others about Jesus, which requires work, devotion and dedication. Matthew 28:19-20 - Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
Are you an ambassador for Christ?
