What Does it Mean to Be a Titus 2 Woman, Verse 1

What Does it Mean to Be a Titus 2 Woman

For the past couple of months, the Lord has been laying the instructions of being a Godly woman found in Titus 2 on my heart. Now, I have no doubt 99.9% of what He is showing and telling me is for ME, because I am failing to be that woman He designed me to be, but I also can’t help feeling like He wants me to share this as well.
So today I am beginning a series on what it means to be a Titus 2 woman. I really want to dig into God’s Word and hear and learn all He has for me about being this woman, so I am going to take this verse, by verse; word by word. Please join me over the next few weeks, and discover with me, what the Lord says about being the Godly woman found in His Word, in Titus 2.

Titus 2, verse 1 says, “But speak thou the things which become sound doctrine:”
Speak the things which become sound doctrine.
Our speech should always be as if we are talking to the Lord. We are all a part of His creation, we are all loved by Him, Jesus died for every one of us, so why then, do we sometimes speak harshly to someone?

A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.”

That isn’t Christ-like. Even when someone is doing something that goes against God’s Word, we can correct them in love .. speaking to them the way Jesus would; giving correction without tearing them down or using harsh words. Colossians 4:6 says, “Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.”

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.”

But I think this first verse in Titus 2 goes a little further then this when it says to speak the things which become sound doctrine. While it is good advice for correction, I believe it is also speaking about teaching about the Lord and how to live a life pleasing to Him. When we get saved, we are a new creation in Christ Jesus, II Corinthians 5:17, “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”, so we are no longer the person we were when we were living in sin; we are a new person, in Christ, so our words and speech should reflect this always. I dare go as far as to say, if our speech doesn’t line up with the Word of God, then we shouldn’t be speaking it. I know this isn’t a popular view, particularly with the world, but who are we trying to please?
God or the world?

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.”

It’s so hard after a long day of chasing children, cooking, cleaning, doing laundry, running errands, to always speak with grace, epically when your 5-year-old asks the same question 25 times in two minutes! These are the times we must stop and take a deep breath and remember, to speak the things which become sound doctrine …. If you answer your 5-year-old with grace, the way Jesus would, you are laying the foundation of sound doctrine. You are showing her mercy and love, you are showing her Christ.
What are some ways we can speak the things of sound doctrine?
Speak the truth
Always be honest
Let your speech always be seasoned with grace
Lift up and edify people
Answer softly and in love
Correct in love
Speak in love
Speak of goodness and good things
Speak humbly
Be gentle with words
Speak in faith
I Thessalonians 4:7, 11-12, “For God hath not called us unto uncleanness, but unto holiness. And that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you; That ye may walk honestly toward them that are without, and that ye may have lack of nothing.” Galatians 5:24-25, “And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.”
Romans 6:6, “Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.”
Next week we'll continue with verse 2!
